Inspired by the Gregg Centre's teachers' professional development tours, this website was created to document the Gregg Centre's 2017 War and the Canadian Experience in France and Flanders study tour. With a focus on inquiry-based learning, this tour brings teachers, students, parents, and university professors together to learn best practices in teaching about Canada's experiences in the world wars.
During the two-week professional development course, all participants embraced the role of student and teacher. To capture this idea and to replicate the tour's inquiry-based learning model, this website incorporates all participants' voices. In other words, it includes participants' ideas, reflections, and research.
In addition to documenting the professional development activities and discussions that take place throughout the study tour, this website serves as a space for interested learners and educators to acquire project ideas and exemplars, access the latest discoveries and controversies among historians, and participate in a virtual community based on the idea that teaching about the experience of war is both complex and necessary.
